I'd say these were close to mammatus clouds. They usually form alongside cumulonimbus clouds...associated with strong thunderstorms. They're very nice to look at. They say they hold pockets of warm air...which indicate a very unstable atmosphere!
They are full of hot air, you say. Then they really are like Debbie!
